What Makes This Different
This is not a classroom-style camp.
This is a boat-forward, experience-driven fishing program led by professional captains.
On-the-Water Fishing Experience
Campers spend the majority of their time fishing aboard our fleet:
- Geronimo – 33’ Grady-White Express
- Betty – Boston Whaler Dauntless 230
- King Louie – Parker 2320SL
Kids learn by doing — casting, reeling, fighting fish, handling gear, and understanding real river conditions.
Boating Safety & Seamanship
All instruction is led by USCG-licensed captains. Campers learn:
- On-the-water awareness
- Basic seamanship
- Safe boating practices
- Proper fish handling and release
Conservation & River Education
Fishing is the hook — but stewardship is the mission.
Kids learn why the Potomac and Anacostia matter and how anglers play a role in protecting them.
Small Groups, Big Confidence
With just 6 campers per week, every child gets:
- Individual coaching
- Encouragement at their own pace
- A supportive, inclusive environment
Meet the Crew
Kids Fishing Club is operated by FishThePotomac, Washington, DC’s premier fishing charter company.
Leading the program is Captain Tim Blanchard, a lifelong DC waterman and USCG-licensed captain, alongside a handpicked crew known for their patience, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with kids.
All staff members are:
- Background checked
- Certified in First Aid & CPR
- Focused on safety, inclusion, and fun
This isn’t babysitting — it’s mentorship on the water.
A Typical Spring Break Day
9:00 AM – Arrival at the Dock
Campers arrive at The Yards Marina and meet the crew. Each day starts with a safety briefing, weather check, and plan for the morning.
9:15 AM – On the Water
We head straight out to fish. Campers rotate through hands-on instruction including casting, knot tying, baiting hooks, and fighting fish — all coached one-on-one.
Mid-Morning – Snack Break on the Water
A short break to refuel, hydrate, and share fish stories while still soaking in the river views.
12:30 PM – Return to Dock
Gear is stowed, highlights are shared, and campers wrap up the day feeling accomplished and confident.
1:00 PM – Pick-Up
Shorter days, nonstop engagement.
