Kids Fishing Club!

🎣 Kids Fishing Club (Ages 12–16)

The Next Level in Youth Fishing Adventures

After the success of our Kids Fishing Club Summer Camp, many families asked: β€œWhat’s next?”
This program is the answer β€” a weekly, on-the-water fishing club designed for older kids who want to build real skills and confidence on the Potomac River. Based at The Yards Marina and running aboard our 23’ Boston Whaler Betty, the Kids Fishing Club is where young anglers ages 12–16 take their fishing to the next level.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Do kids need prior fishing experience?
Not at all! Some kids come in as beginners, others already have experience. Our coaches meet each child at their level.

Is it safe?
Yes. All staff are CPR/First Aid certified, and all participants are required to wear life jackets on the water. Safety is our #1 priority.

What happens if there’s severe weather?
If conditions are unsafe to be on the water, we will either reschedule the session or meet indoors for fishing-related lessons and activities. Indoor sessions still keep kids engaged and learning β€” examples include:

  • πŸͺ’ Knot-tying and rigging workshops

  • 🎣 Tackle and lure demonstrations

  • 🐟 Fish ID and habitat lessons

  • πŸ—ΊοΈ Strategy sessions on how to read river conditions and plan a fishing trip

  • πŸ“Š Contour map reading of different water bodies to understand fish patterns

  • πŸ“Έ Reviewing past catches and learning photo techniques for fish

This way, kids never miss out on learning and the program keeps moving forward, rain or shine.

What should kids bring?
Just weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen, water, and a good attitude! All fishing gear is included.

How big are the groups?
We will keep groups small to ensure every participant gets personalized attention. The first session is limited to 6 spots.
